The pistol from Duke Nukem 3D served as inspiration for how the new pistol functions. The custom weapons in the 2048 Guns add-on primarily provide cosmetic alterations to the stock Doom II weaponry, with the biggest gameplay changes being faster weapons swapping, some new gun sounds, a faster fire rate for the pistol (which is offset by the pistol having to reload), and the plasma gun (renamed the "Magnetic plasma accelerator rifle" in the DeHackEd file) skipping its recoil frames when fired in short bursts. An additional WAD containing six maps that did not make the cut was also released in tandem with the main WAD.

A "clean" version without the custom weapons was later uploaded to the idgames archive. The recommended complevel for the version bundled with the custom weapons is complevel 11. The project makes use of GothicTX custom textures and comes bundled with "2048 Guns", a set of custom weapons created in Decorate specifically for the project by ChopBlock223 which were later ported to DeHackEd by HackFraud, with some help from Brxyz and Redead-ITA. It is a restriction-based project inspired by MAYhem 2048 and Congestion 1024 and mappers were limited to creating maps within a 2048 by 2048 grid.
